Cleansers for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin, apparently it’s not an unusual as I’d thought. According to industry peeps, it’s no more difficult to treat than other skin types but it has it’s namesake for a reason. It’s reactive, it can get drier at slight atmospheric or temperature changes,  if you’re pale rosacea can be part of the package and it can get painful with no apparent cause. Sometime’s my face is actually just sore. No explanation! But it’s not all doom and gloom. With the help of two delightful dames, we’re sharing our favourite cleansers for sensitive skin.

The Stylisy's Notebok Beauty Review Like Silk Conditioning Foam Wash

Name: Elina Nambala

Occupation: Brand strategist

Age: 27

Brand: Like Silk

Product: Conditioning Foam Wash.

R46 for 150ml

What is your skin type?

I have sensitive, dry skin. My skin concerns are patches or dryness and tightness. I often find that I have to reapply moisturiser. I love a product that is able to retain my skin’s moisture (ideally) throughout the day.

Was it effective?

It didn’t directly resolve my skin concerns but it also didn’t aggravate it. It was good product.

What did you like about it?
The packaging, cute name and presence on the shelf caught my eye the first time I bought the product. It wasn’t harsh on my skin, with all the other chemical stuff that I use and consume on a daily basis, it nice that my face wash is one less thing to worry about.

Anything you didn’t like about it?

Like Silk products are general not as readily available as some of the other skin care brands. I had to locate a Dischem to find what I was looking for.

Would you buy it again?

Yeah, definitely

Please note: Our safety rating is determined by checking a list commonly called ‘The Dirty Dozen’. It is rare for products to contain none of the items on this list. Like Silk Conditioning Foam Wash contains Parfum and two PEG substances (PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate and PEG- 7 Glyceryl Cocoate), however both are rated as low hazards on the ewg.org cosmetics database. Parfum (or fragrance) is considered a grey area as ingredient lists are not required to show the ingredients within the parfum. This leaves room for irritants, allergy inducing chemicals and toxins to go undetected by consumers.

Was it effective?

Incredible, I’ve seen such a change in the quality of my skin. It’s definitely smoother and less prone to breakouts.

What did you like about it?

It doesn’t feel harsh on my skin and I love that it has a soothing scent.

Anything you didn’t like about it?

Actually nothing, I adore it!

The Stylist's Notebook Beauty Review Cleasners for Sensitive Skin- African Extracts Rooibos Soothing Cleansing Lotion

Name: Sheena Bagshawe

Occupation: Freelance Stylist and Blogger

Age: 25

Brand: African Extracts Rooibos>

Product: Soothing Cleansing Lotion

R54 for 250 ml

What is your skin type?

I have dry, sensitive skin that’s prone to stress related breakouts. It also reacts to harsh chemicals quite quickly.

How effective was the product?

I switch to gentler products for winter and it always makes a big difference. The creamy lotion feels gentle but  my skin is really clean without feeling tight. When I look at a cotton pad after toning almost no dirty is left behind.

What did you like about it?

I like the smell and consistency of the cleanser, it’s feels really nice on the skin. I also like it’s a local brand and that they’re Beauty Without Cruelty approved.

Anything you didn’t like about it?

I’d always assumed the range was for an older market. It’s not the packaging so I think it’s something about the way it looks in-store, or maybe that I’d never spoken to someone my age uses it. But now I like it so much that I’ve started buying other items from the range too!

Would you buy it again?

I’m planning on it! I’d recommend it to anyone with similar concerns too.
