A simple as a white shirt is, it’s fast becoming a metaphor for where I am in my life right now. This year the bright colours and prints and eccentricity that used to draw me in, have less of a hold on me. I thought I was just yearning for a more streamlined and simple wardrobe, less clutter and more value, but I think it’s part of a bigger picture. Turning to the classics doesn’t necessarily need to be boring though… The metaphor is not that my life is boring either.
This white cotton shirt is just a white cotton shirt, but it’s also carefully considered in proportions and has beautiful detailing. I love the concealed button stand and that the collar is less wide than most shirts, there are really cute skull cufflinks for the french cuffs on the sleeve. This was something I didn’t even see when I ordered the shirt off of Superbalist. It was the best surprise when I opened the package! And the asymmetrical hemline often throws people off, “Is that meant to be there?”. “Yes. It’s on purpose, I did button up my shirt correctly”.
It’s a little off centre compared to the carbon copy button up shirts that you see every day, but that’s why I love it. Definitely a classic and a grown-up purchase. But when you look a little deeper it still has elements of the unexpected. In short, I feel that that simplicity with a bit of the unusual is where my life is headed.
